Thin is Virtualization – VMware Style

VMware Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) is a thin computing model for providing end-users access to their familiar desktop using virtualization software from VMware. VMware VDI provides VMware Infrastructure 3, along with VMware Virtual Desktop Manager (VDM), a connection broker that manages user access to centralized virtual desktop environments.

The VDI solution is used for desktop consolidation to the datacenter while using ultra-small, completely secure thin clients on the end-user desk, linking them to their respective virtual desktops in the datacenter. With desktop environments consolidated within the data center, organizations can deliver secure, isolated desktops that are always on. Each thin client is centrally managed and accessible from anywhere on the network. This allows IT departments to:
  • Control and manage desktops from within the data center
  • Provide a familiar end-user experience
  • Deploy desktop easily and quickly
  • Get enterprise-class scalability, management and reliability

How Wyse Complements VMware VDI

Clients – All Wyse thin clients are compatible with VDI, and our thin clients were the first to support the VDI model.

Provisioning – Wyse’s provisioning technology, Wyse WSM, supports using Zero Clients with VDI. Wyse V00 and V00L zero clients are provisioned with the right OS and local capability to be the ideal VDI clients, also increasing reliability and security.

ManagementWyse Device Manager enables the IT team to centrally manage thin clients in a VDI environment, providing a solution that I agile, and works over all types of network connections (LAN, WAN, and wireless).

EnrichmentWyse TCX software suite is designed to deliver the best user experience within the VDI environment.
  • Wyse TCX Multimedia works with the RDP protocol (that connects the virtual machines on the server to the client), accelerating, and intelligently balancing workload to display rich multimedia on the client, often offloading the task from the server entirely. TCX Multimedia delivers rich PC quality multimedia to users of VDI, so good in fact, that VMware now includes it in ESX Server 3, version 3.02.
  • Wyse TCX USB virtualization provides access to different USB peripherals within a VDI environment without requiring any local driver support on the clients.
  • Wyse TCX Multi-display improves the experience of the end-user to work with multiple monitors and makes the VDI connection multi-monitor aware.
When you consider Wyse’s total hardware and software solutions, combined with your choice of server hardware, you get an unbeatable combination making a VDI-based deployment more economical, easier to manage, more reliable, and a richer experience for users.
