Reed Case Study
Reed Specialist RecruitmentThe Challenge: Expanding to an emerging market
Reed views Australia as a key emerging market for its global expansion strategy. In 2007 Reed had a small office in Melbourne with just 14 employees, and created an IT infrastructure for these users based on a small business server and a local area network. Rosa Scaffidi, IT Manager, was responsible for running this infrastructure and supporting these users on the ground. However, as the companys Australian operations and headcount continued to grow, Rosa realised the IT systems in place had some significant shortcomings, and would soon become a barrier to Reeds planned expansion.
"The problem was users had to log into two separate networks, first the local one, and then the UK one. It wasted time and slowed down productivity," commented Rosa.
This wasnt the only problem. Reed wanted to open a second Australian office in Sydney, but the existing small business network could only really cater for a maximum of 50 employees. With the company continuing to grow rapidly in Australia it was clear headcount would soon outstrip IT capacity, so Reed needed to find a way to support this growing business, without significantly increasing its IT costs.
