Thank you for purchasing the
Wyse CE .NET 4.2 Field Upgrade, the most convenient method for upgrading the
WintermTM 3000 Series Thin Client to the CE.NET operating system.
This upgrade software release for the Winterm™ 3000 Series Thin Client uses the
Windows CE.NET operating system.
The purpose of this
documentation is to provide information to help you upgrade your CE Thin
Clients running older versions of CE to CE .NET 4.2, while maintaining your
current configuration settings.
Before you install the Wyse
CE .NET 4.2 Field Upgrade, ensure that you are currently running Wyse's CE
version 4.0 or later. To properly maintain your current configurations, you
must be running Wyse's CE version 4.0 or later before installing the Wyse CE
.NET 4.2 Field Upgrade.
If you must first convert to
CE version 4.0 before installing the Wyse CE .NET 4.2 Field Upgrade, the
Winterm 3000 Series (CE) Firmware v4.0 Differences document helps explain the
firmware version 4.0 features as compared to older versions and is intended as
a reference document before downloading version 4.0 of the padded image. It is
available from Wyse at:
http://www.wyse.com/serviceandsupport/support/winterm/wt3000fwdiff.htm.
The WintermTM
3000 Series Users and Administrators Guide is available for download from
the Wyse Products Quick Reference site at: http://www.wyse.com/products/winterm/quickstart/3000.htm.
The guide explains how to
use and administer the Winterm™ 3000 Series Thin Client and covers the
following topics:
The WintermTM
3000 Series Add-on Administrators Guide provides information and procedures
for installing Add-ons and is available for download from the Wyse Products
Quick Reference site at: http://www.wyse.com/products/winterm/quickstart/3000.htm.
The downloaded file contains
the Factory Padded Image. The Factory Padded Image is a self-extracting zip
file that contains the core padded image, params.ini file, and associated
Rapport installation script. (Note: The 16MB images do not contain Internet
Explorer (IE) 6.0. If you require IE 6.0, uninstall any unnecessary Add-ons to
free up enough Flash Memory for the IE 6.0 Add-on.)
For backup purposes, it is
highly recommended that you write down your current registry settings before
you begin installing the Wyse CE .NET 4.2 Field Upgrade. This also allows you
to easily reset the registry settings that will not be preserved after your
upgrade.
The following list of
registry settings will NOT be preserved when upgrading from CE.NET 4.0 or
higher to CE.NET 4.2:
§
§
RDP printer
settings – All RDP printer settings
will not be preserved.
§
Dial-up
Connections – Although the dial-up
type connection name will be preserved in Connection Manager, all the
information typically configured through the Dial-up Wizard will default to
empty entries. For example, no phone numbers will be preserved.
§
Modems – All settings in the Modems applet will not be
preserved.
§
§
IE applet
settings – All IE Global Connection
tab settings will not be preserved.
