Thin Computing Pilot in a Box for Shared and Terminal Services
Deliver centralized access to information and applications
When you need more centralized control, easier remote management, and rapid deployment to remote offices, Shared Services/Terminal Services is a great way to deliver access to centrally stored information from anywhere. Shared services normally work well for more than 80 percent of a companys applications.
The server centrally processes the application and information, sending screens quickly to the desktop so that it appears as though everything were executing locally, using multi-user systems software such as Citrix Presentation Server or Microsoft Terminal Services. These solutions allow IT to deliver applications such as Microsoft Office, SAP, and Oracle to the desktop, rather than installing them at each desk.
In a shared/terminal services set-up, all of the applications run on the server through a multi-user solution which then pushes the screens out to the desktops in real-time. In this case, the network cable acts as the connection between the CPU and the display. Every key stroke and mouse movement is registered at the server, processed, and sent back to the thin computer in real time.
