School Districts Turn to Wyse to Decrease IT Costs While Improving Services to Teachers and Students
Wyse Thin Computing Solutions Help Replace Traditional PCs In Three Different School Districts
SAN JOSE, Calif. –
01/23/2007 -
Faced with dwindling budgets and escalating demands for advanced, more ubiquitous technologies, three different school districts in Michigan and Ohio have turned to Wyse to provide consistent, reliable and easy to manage thin computing solutions.
The Adrian Public Schools and the Holly Area School districts in Michigan, as well as the Centerville City Schools in Ohio are utilizing Wyse technology to enable more than 16,400 students, faculty and staff to share and access information. In addition these three separate school districts are able to run multimedia video and web-based educational games in a thin computing environment, which showcases the versatility of this solution.
Wyse thin computing solutions have fundamentally changed the way we think about and invest in computers, says Matt Mello, Director of Technology, Holly Area School District. We wont be deploying traditional computers in the district any more, because the Wyse solution makes so much sense.
The Wyse solution uses stateless thin computers free of moving parts, local storage, and hard drives that are prone to failure, along with Wyse Streaming Manager to deliver both the operating system and the applications to the desktop in real time, where they run locally. Thin computing is helping all three districts reduce costs and maintenance efforts and increase controlall while providing a foundation for delivering the latest learning tools to students and staff. The overall impact for us is that were able to move forward and install more computers for students without adding resources, says Randy Brandeberry, Director of Technology, Adrian Public Schools in Michigan. Money is tight, and Wyse enables us to provide an exceptional level of service with fewer people on staff.
Wyse Streaming Manager allows district IT staffs to deploy a standard operating system and applications from a central location. By streaming the operating system and applications independently of each other, Wyse Streaming Manager makes it possible for stateless thin computers to operate just like PCs, but without the local storage, making it easier for IT to back up, update, manage, maintain, and support multitudes of desktops with minimal staff.
"The demands in the education market are the same as any other market, says Tarkan Maner, President WW Field Operations, Wyse Technology. The mantra of how do we do more with less must be addressed. Our thin computing solutions which comprise of both hardware and software, resonates well with IT managers and CIOs because it simplifies the management and administration process so much while being considerably less expensive.
