Wyse Debuts Sleek, Compact Next Generation Thin-Client Designs and Devices
Worldwide Leader in Server-Centric Computing Launches Most Advanced, High-Performance Thin Clients in the Industry
CITRIX IFORUM - Orlando, Fla. –

Wyse Technology, the domain experts in server-centric computing (SCC), announced today a new generation of advanced thin clients that are redefining the industry with sleek, compact, high-performance thin-client devices. Wyse will unveil at the Citrix iForum conference in Orlando its next generation of product designs, the S and V classes of Winterm thin clients. The new families of products incorporate a streamlined and versatile set of features with fresh styling and space-saving form factors.
Based on highly efficient processors designed for embedded products and the latest in embedded operating systems and software, the new S class and V class of Winterm terminals are secure, managed, affordable, and reliable - and offer a design that is functional and attractive.
"The new generation of Wyse devices are designed to perform, with the classic thin client deployment in mind," said Mike DeNeffe, senior director of the Winterm business line. "These new families of thin client products have significant features and functionality, along with a whole new contemporary, stylish look that will redefine the thin client industry as we know it."
The Wyse Winterm S class thin clients are streamlined, optimized devices about the size of a video tape cassette, employing an innovative, patent-pending, monorail mounting system that is ideal for attaching the unit to a wall, desk or LCD monitor. Featuring AMD Geode GX processors, the Winterm S class delivers excellent processing performance with lower power usage and cooler operation within a diminutive, fan-less form factor. A fast, integrated video chipset translates into excellent video performance that reduces eyestrain and meets stringent government and European resolution and clinical healthcare requirements. The first S class thin client will be available in November.
The Wyse Winterm V class of thin clients deliver an efficient combination of high performance, low power, and integration. The V class of Wyse Winterm products incorporate benefits such as low power, high performance and fan-less design to optimize performance and functionality. This new family of thin clients will be the platform for demanding enterprise deployments in the mid- and upper-range. Capable of CPUs of 1 GHz, the V class features excellent video performance, a myriad of I/O connection options, and run on a number of operating systems. The first V class thin client will be shipping before the end of the year.
"The new S and V classes of products are addressing the needs of customers for thin clients that need small or zero footprint, yet feature optimized processing capabilities and functionality," added DeNeffe.
In addition to its next generation thin clients, Wyse is releasing two new classic versions of thin client devices running on the Microsoft Windows CE and Windows XP Embedded operating systems. These new units offer improved performance and additional features compared to existing Wyse products.
The new thin clients from Wyse will also feature support for the latest version of Citrix's ICA protocol (v 8). "Wyse is consistently offering thin client innovation built upon ICA," said David Jones, senior vice president of corporate development at Citrix. "With a long history of success on the Citrix platform, Wyse continues to deliver the latest ICA technology with this new generation of thin clients in order to offer its potential customers the best of both worlds."
The Wyse Winterm 3150SE is the first thin client device running on the Windows CE 5.0 platform, with exceptional speed and price/performance improvements. This new product from Wyse features enhanced video performance in a tight, classic form factor with legacy I/O and high-speed I/O ports. It comes standard with 32MB Flash and 128Mb RAM. The Winterm 3150SE is available immediately with an estimated customer price of $399.
"Wyse's decision to incorporate the new features from Windows CE 5.0 into their line of thin clients is due to the fast time-to-market and lower cost of development enabled by the Windows CE platform," said Jane Gilson, group product manager of the Mobile & Embedded Devices Division at Microsoft Corp. "The Wyse Winterm 3150SE provides customers with faster performance and improved functionality to better meet their specialized business needs."
The Wyse Winterm 9150SE is a high performance, yet affordable, small form factor Windows XP Embedded thin client. Positioned as an entry-level alternative for the Windows XPe thin client market, the Wyse Winterm 9150SE provides the performance and functionality needed in robust XPe thin client implementations. Powered by Microsoft Windows XP Embedded, the Winterm 9150SE supports a full local browser with multimedia and can run 32-bit, 16-bit and Java local applications. It comes standard with 256 MB Flash and 256MB RAM. The Winterm 9150SE is available immediately with an estimated customer price of $499.
