LINUXWORLD - San Francisco, Calif., –
08/02/2004 -
Wyse Technology, the domain experts in server-centric computing (SCC), announced today the company is joining the Open Source Development Labs (OSDL), a global consortium dedicated to accelerating the adoption of Linux in the enterprise. Wyse, with a full line of Linux devices and software and the only OSDL member solely focused on thin client solutions, will also participate in OSDL's Linux desktop steering committee to help establish parameters and lead initiatives for the Linux desktop.
"We look forward to building upon our relationship with OSDL, as the center-of-gravity for the Linux industry to support and foster the growth of desktop Linux and server-based technologies in the open source solutions area," said Mike DeNeffe, Senior Director of the Wyse® Winterm business line. "As the fastest growing segment of the thin-client market, Linux thin clients represent a real opportunity to help advance the overall Linux desktop movement to the enterprise."
Participation in OSDL initiatives will allow Wyse to share expertise with other members on the latest Linux technology. Wyse will join other members in OSDL, representing many of the biggest and most prominent technology companies in the world, in support of its mission to accelerate the use of Linux in the enterprise, provide practical guidance, and eliminate the inhibitors to Linux expansion to the enterprise desktop.
"Linux is gaining acceptance in the thin-client market and that acceptance will only increase as companies like Wyse offer their expertise and success in the server-centric and open source solution arena," said Stuart Cohen, CEO of OSDL.
Bill Weinberg, OSDL's Open Source Architecture Specialist, will present with Wyse at the upcoming Birds of a Feather presentation series on August 3rd at the LinuxWorld conference in San Francisco. They will discuss the acceleration and key ingredients of Thin Linux adoption.
