Wyse Technology, the domain experts in server-centric computing (SCC), announced today at the LinuxWorld Conference and Expo that it is collaborating with AMD to provide the AMD Geode GX 533@1.1W* processor in its latest lines of Wyse® Winterm Linux-based thin client devices. By integrating the low-power AMD Geode processor, Wyse is taking the lead in offering its customers a strong Linux-based thin client solution that helps maximize technology investments. Built upon AMD's x86 architecture, the AMD Geode processor eases implementation, application support, and peripheral support for Linux thin clients. The processor is designed for power, performance and design flexibility. Utilizing the AMD Geode processor, Wyse thin clients are able to run Linux at high speeds and at price points lower than a traditional PC.
"We are excited to be teaming with AMD in our strategic push into the growing Linux thin client marketplace," said Mike DeNeffe, senior director of the Wyse Winterm line. "The quality and design expertise of AMD, combined with the low-power, integrated AMD Geode processor with significant cost performance advantages makes the AMD choice a natural one for our Linux devices."
The integrated, fan-less design of the AMD Geode processor offers competitive system performance at lower clock rates built in a very slim form factor. The AMD Geode processor also provides excellent video capabilities to display graphics that meet stringent workplace requirements.
The AMD Geode GX 533@1.1W processor is part of Wyse's most optimized and flexible Linux thin client and the only thin client device to date based on the latest Linux kernel 2.6. The Wyse Winterm 5150SE thin client, powered by the Wyse Linux V6 operating system, is an advanced system that is setting new standards for performance and value on the Linux desktop.
"AMD and Wyse are confident that the AMD Geode processor is the best solution for providing high-performing, low-power, Linux-based thin client solutions to the market," said Erik Salo, director of marketing for AMD's Personal Connectivity Solutions Group. "Our commitment to creating enhanced designs for our customers has helped Wyse lead the market with solid performing thin client products."
* The AMD Geode GX 533@1.1W processor operates at 400MHz. Model numbers reflect performance as described here: http://www.amd.com/connectivitysolutions/geodegxbenchmark.
