Wyse Technology Helps Gold's Gym Muscle up on Information Protection and Privacy
Wyse Winterm Thin Clients Deployed in Tribunales to Lower Total Cost of Ownership and Increase IT Security
San Jose, CA –
04/19/2002 -
Wyse® Technology, the worldwide leader in secure, managed thin clients, today announced the company's Winterm thin clients are being deployed by Gold's Gym International, the largest gym chain in the world, to help protect the privacy of members' personal information. Gold's Gym is currently using the Wyse Winterm 3360SE and 8360SE thin clients in 14 gym locations throughout the United States for registration, check-in and general back office administrative work that had been done using personal computers. The server-based environment using Wyse thin clients enables Gold's Gym to maintain private information on secure, back-end servers. Gold's Gym personnel will experience the same applications that they are used to running on the PCs, but the administration will be performed centrally by a highly trained IT staff.
"With more than two million members worldwide, we have an extensive database of important and private information that needs to be protected," said Jeff Skeen, CIO at Gold's Gym International. "With Wyse thin clients, we can rely on our information being secure and managed from a centralized location that only our IT staff has access to. We now control everything on the server side and no longer worry about unsecured personal computers. If someone decides to run away with a thin client, all of our information will still be secure."
Gold's is planning on deploying Wyse thin clients at an additional 20 to 30 locations by the end of 2002 and continuing the deployment in the next three to five years to approximately 150 corporate gyms. Gold's has also made the thin-client computing environment available to more than 600 franchisees through a software vendor program. In addition to the high levels of data security provided by the Wyse Winterm thin clients, Gold's Gym has also recognized a decrease in the amount of IT support and spending it needs to manage hundreds of remote desktops. Before deploying Wyse thin clients, the Gold's Gym IT department had to travel around and fix personal computers.
"Gold's Gym International is a great example of how Wyse thin clients can be used by any industry to help provide a more secure computing environment, while cutting IT support costs," said Brad Rowland, director of product management at Wyse Technology. "Wyse continues to work with customers to provide an easy and affordable way to communicate and access information using thin clients."
The Winterm 3360SE, based on the Microsoft Windows CE operating system is the best way to simplify desktop and IT management by delivering greater flexibility, productivity, security and longevity in server-based computing environments. The Winterm 8360SE, based on the Microsoft Windows NT Embedded operating system, is the most flexible Wyse terminal. It supports local application execution, multimedia and local browsing to the Windows terminal and delivers the flexibility of a personal computer with the reliability and simplicity of a thin-client.
