Conroe Independent School District Deploys Wyse Winterm Thin Clients and Rapport Management Software

Wyse Winterm 3235LE Provides Cost-Effective Computing Solution For Students and Staff

Wyse® Technology, the worldwide leader in secure, managed thin clients, today announced the Conroe Independent School District in Conroe, Texas has deployed a thin-client solution featuring Wyse Winterm™ thin clients and Rapport Administrative Software. Conroe replaced personal computers throughout the district with 1,700 Wyse Winterm 3200/3235 LE devices, allowing staff and students to access Windows 2000 applications, the Internet and school intranets in environments ranging from elementary and high school general purpose labs, to the offices of the superintendent and human resources department. Wyse's Rapport Management software allows Conroe's teachers to focus on education while the district's IT experts remotely attend to the various computer labs throughout the district.

"Wyse Winterm thin clients enabled the Conroe Independent School District to set up a 30 station computer lab in a matter of minutes, rather than the days usually spent installing PCs," said Dr. Scott Barrett, Director of Technology, Conroe Independent School District. "This meant our students could immediately get to work using the new computer terminals. In addition, Wyse's Rapport Management Software allows us to manage all of the Winterm thin clients deployed throughout our school district remotely, significantly cutting our IT admzinistration costs."

"Wyse Winterm thin clients are ideal for school districts. These secure, centrally managed terminals provide virtually infallible access to standard Windows and Internet applications, eliminating the hassles created by worn-out or malfunctioning PCs," saidWyse Technology's Brad Rowland, director of product management. "Since all data is stored and accessed on a central server, Conroe Independent School District is able to filter their schools' Internet activity, preventing students from accessing material on the Internet that may be inappropriate for school viewing. This minimizes the need for teachers to monitor the Web sites their students are visiting and allows them to concentrate on delivering their lesson plans."

Wyse Winterm thin clients are desktop devices that run popular Windows applications from central servers and display the applications on a display screen. Unlike personal computers, thin clients have no internal moving parts such as fans or disk drives, which can break down and require replacement. Thin clients are nine times more reliable than a PC and deliver greater data security and virus resistance. Because thin clients are managed from central servers, and do not have a disk drive, there is no risk of students tampering with the device by introducing viruses or other malicious content.
