President George W. Bush Gets a Second Look at Energy Savings of Wyse Technology's Winterm Thin Appliances

President Bush, Vice President Cheney And Staff Witness How Wyse Thin Appliances Use Up To 80 Percent Less Power Than Personal Computers

Wyse Technology, the worldwide leader in thin-appliance computing, announced today that President George W. Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney and other members of their staff will view a demonstration of the energy savings of Wyse's Winterm™ thin appliances over personal computers. During a session at the U.S. Department of Energy, the President and Vice President will see and hear how thin appliances from California-based Wyse Technology are helping address some of the energy consumption issues of the state's businesses. The President and California Governor Gray Davis originally witnessed this demonstration following a discussion with the World Affairs Council in Los Angeles on May 29, 2001.

"There is no end in sight for California's energy crisis, however energy conservation is not only a California issue, but a national issue," said George Skaff, vice president of worldwide marketing for Wyse Technology. "Winterm thin appliances have the ability to dramatically reduce the energy consumed by both the business and corporate computer user by up to 80 percent, and multiplied by the millions of PC users across the nation, it is easy to see why this technology has caught the attention of some of our nation's leaders."

Wyse Winterm thin appliances are desktop devices that run popular Windows applications from central servers and display the applications on a display screen. They use energy-efficient National Semiconductor Geode™ processors and have no internal moving parts such as fans or disk drives. A Wyse thin appliance with an integrated 15-inch monitor uses only 25 watts of power, whereas a desktop PC with 17-inch monitor uses 171 watts of power - a savings of 146 watts, which when multiplied in California by the hundreds of thousands of PCs in use in the state, can translate into hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings.
