UNIX/BSD Software Engineer

Location: San Jose, California

We are currently looking for a UNIX/BSD Software Engineer for our R&D department at our San Jose, California headquarters.

This role will be responsible for the following major tasks:
  • Development and support of WYSE's custom thin client OS; hands-on tech. lead; commitment to quality standards; accurate scheduling; technical domain expert; sustaining engineering open ticket
  • In depth knowledge of software engineering/programming concepts; very good at C, proficient at C++; PC architecture; Unix (Linux) system level development; BSD Unix preferred; Windows Terminal Services; Localization support; Citrix MetaFrame; Presentation Server; NFuse
  • In depth knowledge of troubleshooting and debugging; Kernel/User mode debugging; file system, video, and network (Ethernet, Wi-Fi) device debugging; protocol analyzing, tracing.
  • Working knowledge of Network Analysis and Administration; TCP/IP and related network protocols (packet-level analysis); DNS, WINS; DHCP, BOOTP; PPP, PPTP, SLIP, CSLIP; FTP, TFTP, HTTP, PXE;SNMP, MIB structure; SNTP; Ethernet, Wireless (802.11a/b/g); Email - POP3, SMTP, IMAP4; WWW - MS Internet Explorer, HTML, Proxy Servers, Time Servers; File systems/servers - NFS, SMB, FAT, NTFS, Samba, etc.
  • Working knowledge of Serial/Parallel Data I/O Communications: Serial - RS-232, RS-423; Parallel; USB 2.0; Firewire
Responsibilities
  • Development and maintenance if Software Requirements and Specifications
  • Knowledge using MS Project
  • Detailed Design Specifications
  • Engineering functional Specifications
  • Unit Test and Acceptance Test Plan Development
  • Test Tools - Network analyzers such as Netmon, serial dataline monitors, breakout boxes, TestQuest Pro systems, Rational Test
  • Knowledge of source control system (SVN preferred)
  • Knowledge of bug tracking system (TeamTrack preferred)
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or related major
  • Over 5 years of hands-on technical development in information technology industry
  • Over 1 year of project management experience with successful release record
  • Strong coding skills requiring master programming expertise in C and proficient at C++ and Assembly
  • Demonstrable experience developing BSD Unix based applications
  • Kernel level development is highly desirable
  • Strong organization skills
  • Full understanding of SDLC process and tracking record of implementation and sustaining
  • Extensive track record of releasing programs in a cross functional team environment
  • Ample experience on effective collaboration among multiple parties distributed globally
  • Fluent and articulate communication skills
  • Customer centric advocate with clear understanding of the quality and efficiency
